Portfolio Analysis and Planning
|
Portfolio Commercialization Review takes the odds and ends of
your I.P. portfolio and puts them together in innovative ways to solve real
world problems. It combines the expertise of FrontPoint managing professionals
to sift through several technologies (which may be bundled patents covering the
same technology) in order to discover which have commercial potential on their
own or when combined with other in-house or external technology are candidates
for donation in order to gain tax benefits.
Go/NoGo Analysis is an early stage weeding tool, designed to
rapidly and cost-efficiently identify business impediments to commercialization before
resources are spent commercializing a technology which is unlikely to succeed.
Commercialization Feasibility Study provides the data
necessary to prioritize technologies for follow-on efforts and background data
for assembling and tasking the marketing team or licensing agent.
Niche Construction Analysis discovers practical applications
for scientific and engineering advances and identifies partners, positions the
technology, and opens a dialog with champions in potential partners able to
provide R&D funding and/or downstream commercialization support
Business and Commercialization Plans can address zero stage
start-up, internal diversification, spin-out, joint venture, franchising, and
other models in light of customer objectives.
Technology Niche Analysis positions and develops a market
entry strategy and launch tactics for a technology at the proof of concept
stage or beyond and paves the path to negotiations with technology acquisition,
strategic alliance or licensing decision-makers at potential commercialization
partners (or venture capitalists) who have been contacted and expressed
interest in your technology.
Prototype Analysis positions a technology at the prototype
stage or beyond and develops a roadmap for market entry for a technology at the
prototype stage or beyond. It identifies participants for concurrent
engineering and opens a dialog with product line and business unit managers at
potential commercialization or licensing partners and lead customers.
Location of Technology Resources includes a global search
locating and assessing technology, knowledge, know-how, vendors, guided by
criteria reflecting the problems and objectives of the customer. Solutions
often involve integrating several commercial and/or military technologies.
IP Management is about exploiting the potential of a
portfolio. We do it by:
-
identifying the technology clusters with portfolio to exploit commercialization
economies of scale and scope
-
identifying the triggering events which: change the priorities of how IP
clusters are treated or can tell you which technologies to move on and which to
abandon
-
set up a monitoring system that allows you to cost efficiently maximize income
and other goals for portfolio management.

License Deal Structuring
|
|
FrontPoint's Deal Simulation allows simulation exploration of deals by
establishing a sequence of tasks for the completion of R&D, transitioning
the technology into production, and then into the market. Identification of
critical path tasking and milestones is critical. Output is an integrated
marketing, transitioning, etc. plan, which can be used to evaluate post-deal
progress and compliance.
Deal Structure Advice provides the substantive groundwork for negotiating a
deal. This consists of:
-
Deal Simulation that contains a structured set of tasks that transition the
technology from the developer to the recipient and into the market
-
a Term Sheet containing a recommended initial offer to be made to the other
party
Our Deal Making service provides proven experts to act as your
marketing/licensing/deal-making agent. Our deal-makers conduct their activities
under guidelines you provide and using pre-approved criteria.

Valuation
|
|
Valuations are conducted on technologies (individual or portfolios) or
businesses and from the technology owner’s perspective, acquirer’s perspective,
or both. Valuations typically are for the life of the patent or anticipated
product or service life cycle, whichever is shorter. Three discounted cash flow
scenarios (high, medium, and low) are provided, together with assumptions along
with explorations of additional scenarios. These valuations are also used in
support of litigation or patent assertion.

Market Analysis
|
Industry Assessment examines a set of up to
six industrial sectors (defined using North American Industrial
Classifications) in order to determine how well a technology, capability,
product line, product family, etc. (i.e., goods) fits with the customer base in
that sector.
Know who you're dealing with before you sit down at the table. A Target
Profile is a competitive intelligence report that helps you
negotiate with the target from a position of strength.
